If you’ve been watching the competition among carmakers, it’s clear that Kia and Hyundai run neck-to-neck. According to Kelly Blue Book (KBB), the Hyundai Genesis G70 came out on top compared to the Infiniti Q50.
Kia is impacting the markets harder than Hyundai.
Kia launched the K900 engine in 2012. The K9 in Korea features 311 horsepower (hp), and the Quoris in Canada comes with 365 hp. Kia didn’t stop innovating. The second generation of the K900 built-in 2018 came with an AWD 5.0 Tau GDI engine that increased the horsepower to 419. All trim levels host an eight-speed transmission. The starting price for a 2020 K900 is $61K. Compare that to the Hyundai Genesis G70, which starts at $36K. That’s a considerable price gap!
Kia compact SUV versus Hyundai’s
Kia and Hyundai deliver great entry-level to mid-level vehicles. Both companies boost their image by using their luxury line. Kia is changing the game by reshaping the compact SUV. Let’s look at the latest model, the Kia Telluride. The 2021 Telluride is built for any environment while it maintains comfort. This deluxe SUV is on the top of its list because of its capability and luxury. You can pick up a base model for approximately $31K. The pricier version is the SX AWD, which goes for $44K.
On the other hand, you can get the Hyundai Venue for $20K, and it doesn’t look or feel cheap. The Venue is a compact SUV, and the base trim is approximately $18K. The compact SUV keeps drivers happy because of the numerous standard features seen in more luxury brands. The SEL trim comes with all the rings and whistles, from 17-inch alloy wheels to blind-spot monitoring. If you want a blue-themed interior go for the Venue Denim Edition. The Venue Denim, which costs $22K, hosts two-tone blue and white paint.
Great looking and fast sports sedans from Kia and Hyundai
Kia took a huge step forward by releasing the Kia Stinger in 2017. Albert Biermann and Peter Schreyer designed the five-door liftback. Both key players are German automobile experts. Kia’s chief designer Gregory Guillaume oversaw the project, and it is now a success.
The Kia Stinger has a sleek image and comes with two engine options. The 252 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged in-line-four engine packs a punch but the more powerful 365 hp twin-turbo V6 ranks the top. Engineers at Kia say the Stinger accelerates 0 to 60 in about 7.7 and 4.9 seconds. The claims were examined and back by Car and Driver during a test drive of the GT 3.3T AWD. The tires played a significant role in the acceleration time. The initial test with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires achieved zero to 60 in 4.6 seconds. The test drives using other tires reduced the speed to about 6.6 seconds.
Hyundai didn’t develop a sports sedan equivalent to the Stinger. Hyundai is excellent at creating bold automotive designs. Check out their 2021 Elantra. You can see the innovative approach with its angular exterior details and deluxe cabin. The Elantra is impressive, and its a more preferred sedan than its competitors like the Toyota Corolla or the Civic. On top of that, they announced they would soon come out with a Hybrid Sentra. If you decide to purchase a second hand Elantra, Corolla, or Civic, we recommend getting a CARFAX report. Click here to buy one for $4.99!
The noteworthy 2021 Kia Seltos
Kia has eight new cars for 2021. The Seltos, a sporty subcompact SUV crossover, looks similar to the Telluride’s design with little aesthetic innovation touches. Car.com describes the Seltos as a combination of a compact Sportage SUV and Soul hatchback.
Others might say the Seltos is similar to the Hyundai Kona; however, they’re different. The small size but smart design competes with Nissan Rouge sport and Mazda CX-30, both being large subcompact SUV’s. The 2021 Seltos will push 146 hp in its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The two-speed continuously variable automatic transmission (CVAT) in the Seltos will give you a smooth shifting experience. You can purchase a Kia Seltos S with added options for about $23K.
Overall, Kia is a bit ahead of Hyundai. With a new line of 2021 inventory coming out, Kia is the brand to follow. Whether you want an upscale car or high quality at a fair price, Kia has something for everyone.
